Help for a chained dog
Billie, a black and lively dog, had been living for years chained up on a farm – day and night, in every kind of weather. He only had a hut made from wood were he could take refuge and sleep. Apart from him there were also a small dog and a few cats that roamed about and gave him company. Margreet visited him regularly and brought him food or took him on a walk. Billie was always overjoyed and the owner did not object. They are nice people, but they have too many animals, too much work and have a different attitude to animals.
One day, when I walked with Billie and wanted to put on a collar, I saw an open wound on his neck. Billie probably had been attached to a new rope to which he was tied, which was too tight and cut into his neck. I talked to the owner who promised to look after it. But when I came by the next time, he had not done anything. I made an appointment with the vet and took Billie there. He shaved the fur around his neck, the rope had to be removed under anesthetic, the wound was treated with antibiotics and the vet gave me medication against the infection. We bought him a leather collar so that he would not have to be attached with a rope again. In the meantime the injury has completely healed up.
We are looking for a new home for Billie, because his owners want to get rid of him, probably also, because he is old (9 years). We visit him once in a while to take him on a walk and to bring him an extra portion of food.
